Moondrop Chu 2 Review: The Best Type-C Earphones Under ₹2000?

๐ŸŽง The Earphones I Would Recommend to Everyone

(Moondrop Chu 2 – Honest Long-Term Review)

moondrop chu 2 earphones review

“Best earphones under ₹2000?”
This is probably one of the most common questions in the audio space.

And no — the answer is not the anime girl on the box,
it’s the earphones inside the box.

I have been using the Moondrop Chu 2 for almost one full month, and in this post I’ll cover:

  • What’s good

  • What’s bad

  • Real-world usage (music, gaming, mic, comfort)

  • And whether you should actually buy them or not

This is not an audiophile review — just an honest everyday user perspective.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Unboxing & First Impressions

Right after opening the box, the earphones are placed neatly on top.
The presentation is genuinely impressive for the price.

A small but nice touch:
Moondrop uses different cover art for the Type-C version and the 3.5mm headphone jack version, which is something you don’t usually see at this price point.

What’s inside the box:

: moondrop chu 2 unboxing box contents
  • Moondrop Chu 2 earphones

  • Detachable cable

  • 6 pairs of ear tips

  • Fake leather pouch

  • Velcro strap (with Moondrop branding)

  • Paperwork with clean artwork

Overall, the unboxing experience feels premium and thoughtful.

๐Ÿ—️ Build Quality & Design

Once you attach the cable, the earphones feel surprisingly heavy for their size — and that’s a good thing.

  • Outer shell: Aluminium alloy

  • Inner shell: Zinc alloy

  • Fully metal construction

Despite being metal, they do not feel heavy in the ear.
The cable is soft, flexible, braided at the bottom, and fully detachable.

I personally went with the Type-C version because:

  • I don’t like dongles or DACs

  • They are bulky

  • And I keep losing them

But yes, the 3.5mm version is also available if you prefer that.

๐Ÿ‘ค Usage Context (Important)

Quick disclaimer:
I am not an audiophile.

I’m just a regular everyday user, and my testing was done using:

  • Music listening

  • Casual gaming

  • Normal phone usage

  • Calls and mic testing

No fancy audio equipment involved.

๐Ÿ”Š Technical Specs (Simple Explanation)

  • Driver: Single 10mm Dynamic Driver

  • Impedance: 18 ohms

  • Frequency Response: 15Hz – 38,000Hz

Human hearing range is roughly 20Hz – 20,000Hz, so these earphones fully cover and exceed what we can actually hear.

Because of the low impedance, they are very easy to drive.
I used them directly from my phone’s Type-C port — no DAC, no adapter.

Volume output is surprisingly loud.
For me, 60–70% volume already feels like full volume.

๐ŸŽถ Sound Quality – What Really Matters

These are In-Ear Monitors (IEMs), and sound quality is where they shine.

Moondrop even prints a frequency response graph on the box, which is actually very helpful.

Quick Sound Explanation:

  • Bass = low-end punch

  • Mids = vocals & instruments

  • Highs = sharp details like ticks, clicks, cymbals

A perfectly straight graph would mean neutral sound —
but humans usually find that boring.

That’s why club and wedding sound systems use a V-shaped sound signature
(boosted bass + boosted highs).

Moondrop Chu 2 Sound Signature:

  • Slight bass boost ✔️

  • Slight treble boost ✔️

  • Not aggressive

  • Not V-shaped

  • Very balanced

If you’re switching from normal Bluetooth earphones,
you will notice new details in songs, even on platforms like Spotify.

For first-time IEM users, this difference will be very noticeable.

๐ŸŽค Microphone & Controls

The earphones come with:

  • Inline microphone

  • Play / pause

  • Volume up / down

  • Long-press assistant support

Mic quality is better than expected.
With a little noise reduction and EQ, the voice sounds clear and usable for calls and casual recordings.

๐Ÿ˜ด Comfort – Where These Beat Almost Everything

This is where the Moondrop Chu 2 destroys most competitors.

I can literally sleep wearing them.

  • No sharp edges

  • No pressure points

  • No ear pain when changing sleeping position

Most IEMs in this price range are bulky or angular.
These are small, smooth, and extremely comfortable.

๐ŸŽฎ Gaming Performance

  • Zero latency (wired advantage)

  • Clear footsteps

  • Directional audio is easy to identify

  • Soundstage is excellent for an earphone

Only large over-ear headphones can beat them in soundstage.
For an IEM, this is impressive.

❌ The Bad Parts (Honest Cons)

Let’s stop glazing and talk about problems.

1️⃣ Cable Tangling

The cable is soft, but it tangles very easily.

Put it anywhere for a few seconds,
and you’ll spend 15 seconds untangling it.

2️⃣ Ear Hook Design

The hook design makes it slightly confusing to figure out
which side goes where when you pull them out quickly.

3️⃣ Pouch Quality

The included pouch is honestly bad.

Putting the earphones inside it is difficult.
The pouch is only useful for storing the velcro strap — nothing else.

4️⃣ Ear Tips Installation

The ear tips are tight and require force + rotation to install.
First-time users may find this annoying.

๐Ÿ” Alternatives (If These Don’t Work for You)

Some popular alternatives exist:

  • Tanchjim Tanya

  • TruthEar Hola

  • 7Hz Salnotes Zero

However, Type-C versions of these are hard to find.
If you specifically want Type-C IEMs, Moondrop Chu 2 becomes the default best option.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Price, Warranty & Value

  • Price: Under ₹2000

  • Replacement: 7 days

  • Warranty: 1 year

At this price, with this sound quality and comfort,
the value is extremely strong.

✅ Final Verdict

If you want:

  • Excellent sound quality

  • Extreme comfort

  • Gaming + music usage

  • Type-C without dongles

Then Moondrop Chu 2 is an easy recommendation.

In fact, I’m planning to buy another pair for someone else as well.

๐Ÿ“Œ Final Note

If anything changes long-term, I’ll update it in a community post.
And yes — this is one of my personal favorite recommendations.
